Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme derived from Serratia spp. It has been taken orally for its supposed action in relieving inflammation and oedema associated with conditions such as trau ma, infection, respiratory-tract congestion, or chronic venous insufficiency, in usual doses of 5 to 10 mg (10 000 to 20 000 units) up to three times daily.
