Nux vomica consists of the dried ripe seeds of Strychnos nuxvomica (Loganiaceae). It has the actions of strychnine. As well as containing strychnine, nux vomica contains brucine which has similar properties. Nux vomica is used in herbal medicine for a wide variety of disorders including those of digestion or debility.
