Profile

Ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) is a nerve growth factor produced in neural tissues and released in response to injury. Recombinant CNTF has been investigated in motor neurone disease, peripheral neuropathy, and obesity. CNTF is also under investigation for the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa and atrophic (dry) age-related macular degeneration as an intra-ocular polymer implant containing human retinal epithelial cells that have been genetically modified to secrete CNTF.
