💊 Profile

Bornaprine hydrochloride is a quaternary ammonium antimuscarinic with actions and uses similar to those of trihexyphenidyl. It is used in the symptomatic treatment of parkinsonism, including the alleviation of the extrapyramidal syndrome induced by drugs such as phenothiazines, but, like other antimuscarinics, is of no value against tardive dyskinesias; it is claimed to be mainly effective against tremor. Bornaprine hydrochloride is given orally in initial doses of 2 mg daily gradually increased to 6 to 12 mg daily according to response. It is also used in the treatment of hyperhidrosis in a dose of 4 to 8 mg daily.
