(Oxolinic Acid). An almost white or pale yellow crystalline powder. Practically insoluble in water and in alcohol; very slightly soluble in dichloromethane; dissolves in dilute solutions of alkali hydroxides. Protect from light.

Oxolinic acid is a 4-quinolone antibacterial with properties similar to those of nalidixic acid, although adverse effects on the CNS may be more frequent. It has been given orally in the treatment of urinary-tract infections.
